Craigs List ad for PHP Developer

We’re currently looking to hire an awesome php developer for part time / contract type work.

Serafini Studios is looking for a part time / contract web developer with extremely strong PHP, MySQL and AJAX skills.

This can easily be a nighttime / weekend position if you have a day job. If you are good you probably have a day job. We have a couple of projects coming up that require very strong, very detail oriented PHP + DB skills. Some involve cleanup work. Some involve PHP-based CMS.

We are working to establish better in-house AJAX capability. If you’ve been keeping up with the latest developments in user interface, HTML, CSS, Javascript, etc… then we would like to see some of your work.

Requirements:
You must provide 2-3 links to your work, or work you’ve contributed heavily towards. Describe your involvement. We’re looking for people who can go start to finish on a project. You must be cool. You must get along with others. You must think of customers as, well, customers, who deserve to be treated with respect and love. Although we do have a Project Manager to help with that too… 🙂

Describe why you would like to join a rapidly growing highly skilled group of Open Source fans who love the latest in sweet user interface design, high high quality coding like you’d like to show your mom, what some of your recent interests have included. If you blog, (and who doesn’t these days…) give us a link to your site. We want to get to know you. And if you’re cool and have the chops we’d like to include you on some projects. Some may have the potential to be full-time for a period of months, but this right now is mainly for smaller independent contractor type jobs.

So, give us some links to your work, an idea of what you’d like to be paid, and what your immediate and general time availablilty are. Once again, this is not (currently) a salaried position. More of a ‘if you’re awesome and have some time to work on cool php projects’ type position for now.

Thanks,
Gabriel Serafini

Replacement icon for Audio Recorder

We liked Ben Shanfelder’s OS X application Audio Recorder so much that we had to make an icon for it, since as it ships right now it lacks one (it just shows the generic OS X application icon).

Replacement icon for Audio Recorder

If you would like to use this, then download the icon below, unzip it, and Get Information on the icon file inside. Click on the icon preview and Cmd-C, then Get Information on the Audio Recorder program, click on the default application icon, and press Cmd-V. You should see the new icon replace the default icon.

We used IHeartNewYork’s excellent aqua shape how-to (with a couple of additions) when making this. Thanks!

Hope you enjoy this. It was fun to make, and Audio Recorder is a great small application for recording audio.

Dear agentx…

Redesign Time

Dear agentx,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the design of our advertisement in the Midwest Technology Jounal print edition. We value your input. It really made us laugh. A lot. We appreciate your feedback. We’ll try to be more “interseting” and “eye-catching” with our “octupus” in the future. Um, BE GOOD TOO yourself. Thanks,

The ragingly AWESOME team at Serafini Studios.

Dear Serafini Studios.. I saw yer ad at Midwest Technology Journal.. you guys are suppose to be a design company right? well guess what, yer ad on that paper sucks!! it’s plain and boring.. the font’s are too plain, The logo and the catch phrase though is good.. okey where it says “REDESIGN TIME,” that should be on the bottom of the logo.. (the octupus) it would also be more interseting and eye catching if you guys changed the fonts.. that’s all!!! BE GOOD!!!!

Midwest Technology Journal Cover Story

Midwest Technology Journal cover story for June 2004

We’re featured in a cover story about custom software development in the Midwest Technology Journal (formerly PC Journal). The article is about our recent work for Doug Jenkins Custom Hot Rods where we are building a custom web-based time-card and tracking system that Doug estimates will “…will give me exactly what I need.”

Link to complete article: Faster, Cheaper, Better

Note: we really like Doug’s website, but we did not design it. Our work is on his internal system that his employees will be using on a daily basis.

The Problem, the Balloon, and the Four Bedroom House: A List Apart

Nice article at A List Apart on project management and the necessity of understanding of the problem that needs to be solved at the beginning, rather than the end, of a project.

The Problem, the Balloon, and the Four Bedroom House: A List Apart

Many project managers believe a project has a beginning and an end. Everything that happens within those parameters can be dealt with by a methodology and a good framework of processes. What they forget is the emotional core of a project and the questions that need to be asked: Why does this project exist? What benefits will it have? What features will express these benefits? How will it make users more efficient, effective, and happy?
